Theatre Of Hate - The Hop 7"

Released : May 1982
Genre : Post Punk, Gothic Rock
Label : Burning Rome Records
Producer : Mick Jones

Produced by The Clash's Mick Jones, the goth rock/post-punk band Theatre of Hate's penultimate single "The Hop" is so catchy I can't help but enjoy it, even though the group's singer Kirk Brandon's highly dramatic voice (even for goth rock) is a near deal-breaker. B-side "Conquistador" and prior minor hit single "Do You Believe in the West World" sound kind of like Adam and the Ants gone goth, Burundi beats, horns and all. The band's first single, 1980's gloomy post-punker "Original Sin", is tacked on at the end of this four song EP.

1. The Hop
2. Conquistador
